These two armchair's have been fully re-upholstered, involving me taking everything back to the bare frame, then gluing up the frame's of both chairs to make them more sturdy. I then re-built all the padding from scratch, made new feather cushions and then I trimmed the chairs in double piping which was handmade by me. The fabric was also provided by me from Abraham Moon, and is a 100% wool material.
I loved working on these chair's, and was very rewarding when I had finished, especially when I saw the look on my customer's face when I delivered them!!!

Loose cover sofa's, converted into fixed upholstery!!
Here are some before and after picture's of a job I have recently completed. The customer had a two seater sofa and three seater sofa bed, which were both loose cover's. After talk's with the customer, we decided to convert them both into fixed upholstery. I put a few idea's accross on how I think they should look. As the cottage was quite traditional, I suggested we should change the arm style by creating a scroll edge and having a smaller facing set on the front of the arm's, creating a more traditional look. Also I fitted new turned wooden leg's. These were only small and simple change's, but these did make a difference. After the fabric was chosen and ordered by the customer.......I got started!!!

Austin 10 Advert Board/Sign
This is something that the owner (Jarvis Browning) of the 1939 Austin 10 requested, photos of the car can be found on this blog. He very kindly offered to do some advertising for me when he enters shows and competitions, so we put together this. The actual design and printing was carried out by Krystian Jones.
After I had finished the interior of the Austin, that weekend Jarvis entered the car into the pre war Austin catergory at Sledmere............he won!!!
Me and Jarvis were very pleased. I met up with him shortly after where he showed me the trophy he had recieved, and to enjoy a good cup of tea!!!!

1939 Austin Ten Cambridge Saloon.
Well....here is a few pictures of the latest project I was lucky enough to work on! A 1939 Austin Ten. This really is a beautifull classic car, unfortunatly the interior didnt match up to the rest of the car....thats where I came in!! The car had been re-upholstered by somebody else before me, and had been done in vinyl. Me and the owner of the car both agreed that the interior should be done in real leather and in a colour which went well with the rest of the car......so, with the leather ordered....I got started!!!!

What's been happening!!
Well....it's certainly been a busy last couple of month's for me now that I have gone self employed. Basically I have been doing this line of work for about 10 years now.....wow! Weird when you say it like that! Including Traditional upholstery to modern, hotels, bars, restaurants, hair salon's, car's,boat's, plane's and even leather repair!!
I decided to have a go on my own this year, as I am confidant that the work is out there, and so far.....I have not been dissapointed!
I am slowly building up my fabric collection for customers to view, and I have a range of leather and faux leather sample's too!
I work from home at the moment in a workshop that me and my dad built together, it's not huge, but it's a clean and bright space to work in.....it's mine and I love working in there!! But if things keep going the way they are, then im sure I will be having to expand into a bigger place!
I have had alot of support from everybody in my life, from giving advice, handing buisness card's out, or just lending a hand when I need it! So to all of you, a big thank you!
I hope thing's keep going as well as this for the future, if you have any queries about anything at all, perhap's you have an item you want restored, or just some advice! My email is michaelsmithupholstery@gmail.com, and my mobile number is 07585809013.
Many thanks.
